Usui Reiki

Reiki  (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese word that can be broken down into two parts: Rei – meaning Universal life force energy, and Ki – meaning the individualized life force energy that flows within every living creature.  Reiki has no creed, dogma or religion attached to it.  Reiki is the vital spirit essence within us all regardless of race or species – human or animal.  It is pure healing energy.

While the true origins of Reiki are lost in the mists of time, with theoretical links to lost Atlantis, Buddha and Jesus Christ, the Usui system of Reiki - the most traditional and widely practiced form of Reiki today – was (re)discovered after much searching by Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1880s.  Usui Reiki has since expanded around the world, and continues to grow.

All living beings, human or animal, have seven main chakras or energy points in the body.  These chakras correspond to various physiological systems.   Energy blockages in the chakras can cause disruptions in the corresponding systems.  A good example is the formation of ulcers in the stomach, caused by mental/emotional stress –intangible factors that manifest as a physical ailment.  The digestive system is associated with the solar plexus chakra, which is in turn associated with emotions and our sense of personal power.   The release of energy blockages here can have a profound healing effect on many levels.

When all is well, energy flows through the body unimpeded like an electrical current.  Energy blockages can cause “shorts” in the circuit- blockages that may be attributed to mental, emotional or physical trauma, the environment and illness among other factors.  Energy blockages can manifest in many ways, such as psychological/ behavioral problems, general lethargy/depression, hyperactivity, skin conditions, ulcers, etc.

The Reiki practitioner is essentially a channel for the Reiki energy. During a treatment the practitioner rests his or her hands over the recipients chakras and the recipient draws in the required amount of Reiki energy, usually on a subconscious level.  What makes the Reiki practitioner such an effective conduit are the attunements and symbols - amongst other teachings - that the practitioner has received as a part of her/his training.  Scientific research has shown that energy fields of oscillating magnetic resonance are emitted from the hands of healers – the palm chakras of the practitioner – at amounts of up to 1000 times greater than normal.

There are no negative side effects associated with Reiki.  The body simply takes what energy is needed for healing and the excess disperses like water overflowing a bucket that is full.
